Do you use Netflix? Did you ever use Netflix? I did and ended up cancelling after a few months. The problem was, I didn’t want to dedicate 2 hours of my time to watching a movie. 200 hours/month or more of time surfing the net was OK but hey, that’s another story. Having access to a huge supply of movies didn’t change that. There just weren’t that many movies that I really wanted to watch.
Nicholas Carr references an article in The Wall Street Journal talking about this. Yeah, I got the movies I wanted to see but then they started sending me the movies I thought I was supposed to see. And wow, I didn’t really want to watch a lot of them.
Eventually I got tired of having 3 movies I didn’t want to see around the house and cancelled. Glad to hear I’m not alone.

My husband and I were thinking of switching our cable to basic and subscribe to NetFlix (either their unlimited rentals plan or their cheaper 2 DVD’s per month plan) because there really isn’t a whole lot to watch on T.V. (I don’t like watching T.V., I think it’s idle time when I’m too busy for it but I do enjoy watching a movie every now and then). My husband thinks without expanded cable service, he’ll spend more time working on the house and his hobbies (which I would prefer but it’s unlikely). After reading your article, I have mixed feelings about whether to join NetFlix or not. Were there at least 2 to 4 movies that you wanted to watch each month? For us, that would be worth having a subscription.
